Welcome Amy Johnson
The Moultrie-Colquitt County Development Authority is delighted to announce the appointment of Amy Herndon Johnson as its new President. A native of Moultrie/Colquitt County, Johnson brings more than 27 years of experience in economic development to her new role.
Having dedicated the past 26 years to downtown development in Moultrie, Johnson has played a pivotal role in numerous projects, spearheaded impactful events, and facilitated the establishment of more than 100 new businesses, which created several hundred jobs. Her contributions were recognized in 2022 when downtown Moultrie was honored with the prestigious title of Downtown of the Year. Johnson was also honored in 2023 to receive the Starr Award from the Georgia Cities Foundation.
In her consolidated position as the Moultrie-Colquitt County Development Authority President, Johnson will primarily focus on community economic development while also serving in an advisory capacity for downtown development initiatives. Reflecting on her deep-rooted commitment to the community, Johnson expressed, “I am committed to this community. Both of my parents have served in county government, and I have dedicated my entire career to local government, starting in Douglas, GA. Communication will be key in this role. I am excited to work with the board. I have met with them several times, and they are committed to seeing this community grow positively.”
Johnson is enthusiastic about the current roster of projects underway, noting their scope and potential impact on this community would greatly benefit our area.
Laura Beth Tucker, who served as Interim President until Johnson’s appointment, passed away during the transition period. Reflecting on Tucker, Johnson remarked, “Laura Beth was doing great things, and I was fortunate to know her for the brief time I did.”
The Moultrie-Colquitt County Development Authority is confident that Amy Herndon Johnson’s wealth of experience, dedication, and passion for community development will further propel Colquitt County’s economic growth and prosperity.
